Ok. I donned the purple hippo suit and did some digging. Just got an email back from one of my dad's old employees who is a reporter for ESPN now. Not much new really (ESPN doesn't really seem to care what happens here) but here is the email if anyone is interested:

"Yeah, I heard Johnson was in the mix, but I am so far removed from that stuff now I'm probably not the best person to ask. The guy from Sporting News said Johnson is the guy they want but he might not take it. I think he also listed June Jones in there. The guys here have been saying Terry Bowden, Franchione or Bob Davie. Davie? Man, that guy gets mentioned for every job ...
Franchione seems like an odd pick if his buyout clause requires that he doesn't get the money if he goes somewhere else. But maybe he wants to get back in it that badly. A lot of times, the old school pays the difference if a coach gets another job. Maybe that's what would happen.
Sorry I'm not being much more of a help. There are so many jobs open right now, that I think the folks here have been focusing on Michigan and UCLA and the like.
Hope things are going well. Tell your dad I said hi."

My guess is that means that PJ probably was on the plane and we are interviewing him. Especially since he seems to have gone to GT and Duke for interviews, I would guess he is probably talking with everyone that wants to talk to him before he makes a decision.

I'll do some more digging. Another guy used to work at the DMN. I'll see if he has anything for us.

Actually, they changed their statements yesterday from "no one has contacted us" to "it is our department's policy not to comment on personnel matters." Which one might infer means that they now have been contacted. We also know that he has interviewed at GT and Duke, so obviously some schools have contacted them about him now.

Good guess! Happened at a residence in UP. That seemed unusual to me.

You are right. (I realized this mere moments after I had posted a reply.. which I have now deleted)

It's an interesting change of words and would seem to indicate that SMU may indeed be negotiating with Mr. Johnson.

The personal pronouns are a killer. "We" need a scorecard. Could you put in some specifics? Who is "he", "they", "them", "us" "we" - name names.

Ha! Sorry. It was in response to the previous post, which appears to have been taken down now. It was in refernce to Navy saying that no one had contacted them about speaking to Johnson. Guess I should have quoted it in the reply.
