IF Orsini does get his guy...

...how long do we keep Orsini? Just reading the write-up in the Raleigh paper makes it clear that Orsini's developing somewhat of a reputation for fund-rasing, and...more importantly...attempting to restore some degree of relevance to SMU.
This combination, IMO, makes him a prime target sooner rather than later...

I was thinking about that too.
If Paul Johnson and Doherty are successful here, Orsini gone in 3-5 years and given Orsini's propensity to hire people he knows, Doherty and Johnson would probably have the potential to work with Orsini whereever he goes. I hope this is the case and everyone's so successful here they're gone in 5 years, we have 2 top 25 programs and lots of people would want to come here. Oh, and have people going to the games. That being said, we still haven't hired him.

Is there anything written in stone that says the $10M plus raised goes ONLY to the football coaches?

I think at least a small percentage of that should be given to the purple hippo.

I would think if Orsini pulls this off and the Ponies are successful, we would be competitive with his contract if others came looking.

Isn't this kind of like sitting around and thinking "If my wife keeps up her appearance I am sure she will leave me for someone else." Some things are just not worth worrying about until they happen. Until then you treat them as nice as you can while they are with you. Just realize that if Orsini is in demand then good things are happening. And if someone is after your wife, she is still hot.

Actually, I think "if I keep up this appearance, my wife will leave me for someone else" but I see your point.

I think its a bit early to annoint Orsini. Talk about jumping the gun. Long way to go. You guys act like Doherty wasnt for the taking at Florida Atlantic. We didnt get him from Carolina.

And so far, neither football or mens basketball are any closer to being "top 25" than they were when Copeland was here...............

Things are looking better to me than when we had Bennett and Tubbs but trust me, I'm not losing any sleep at all worrying about Orsini leaving. In fact, I hope he gets hired away from us in 4 years b/c our bball & football teams are top 25. Don't burst my bubble here, it's the first time I've been optimistic about anything SMU since before I started which was in '89.
