Duke’s Pull On Johnson Not As Strong As SMU’s?
Published by JoeOvies December 4th, 2007 in ACC Football.
So, we’ve been over the fact that Duke approached Navy’s Paul Johnson yesterday and talked shop. Going for Joe Alleva and the Blue Devils is that Johnson’s interview with Georgia Tech didn’t go so well. Turns out that the Yellow Jackets are looking for more of a hype-man than a straight football guy. Going against Alleva and Duke is that SMU flew Johnson and his wife out to their facilities today and set the tone for any possible contract. Seems like SMU was a bit more generous in it’s offer than Duke. Don’t fret, because as Alleva told us, they’re Duke and SMU is not.

Very typical Duke response...

I can count on my hand how many cool Duke alums I've met in DC.

I'm not saying all of them are a-holes but most of the Dukies I've met suck...

Wow. And people think SMU alums are snobs.

DCPony,
Could you hop on the train out to BWI and find PJ when he gets off the plane to find out what he is thinking these days?

Someone from the hilltop call the author of that article and offer him a job! He'd fit right in...maybe the marketing department or some other game day customer contact point?

If anybody can win a Johnson-pulling contest its SMU.

I am sure the Duke Lacrosse players would agree that Duke is different.

Sorry looks like I'm going to be at work late tonight. Congress is in session.

Anyway it's cold here today. I don't want to freeze my [deleted] off on the BWI platform. Hopefully, the weather was nice in Dallas when PJ was in town...

This is the same Duke that has won 10 games this century and 2 games in the past 3 years, right? :x

Navy still hasn't weighed in as yet. They may make an offer to keep him. He pretty much walks on water there and there is a lot of water around Annapolis.

Have you ever watched a Duke basketball game? When the zoom in on the stands, I have never been so sure I could beat up a gym full of people in my life...

The only thing that is working against Navy is the fact that he's already accomplished as much as he probably can there. He likes it there (it seems), he makes a very good living, but he doesn't get the respect he should. He's admired in the coaching profession for doing more with less than anyone...he wants to be admired for WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

And the same Duke that lost to Notre Dame that got beat by EVERYONE but Stanford and UCLA--including a coach by the name of Paul Johnson.

Duke has no chance if they aren't offering as much money as we are. GT is a threat because they have a winning program in a BCS conference. The worst school in a BCS conference offering less money than us won't get him.

The congressmen don't work late. It's all of the people around them that work late.
