So now what?

We wait? For how long?

I suppose if PJ comes to SMU we ought to know something in the next day or so, but not necessarily. If it is not PJ, I suspect we will be waiting quite a few more days perhaps weeks.

Relax and trust in the Big O. The alternative will drive us crazy, so let's step away from the keyboard, a bit.

it could actually not be until december 21st. navy's bowl game is the 20th. the decision would have to be made to abandon his team before a bowl to get started at a new school, or to wait on the announcement, coach his team through a bowl, and then announce the hire.

At the level of coaches we're talking about here, they dictate when they announce.

If he won't announce until the 20th, we should not be hiring him. The recruiting dead period begins on the 17th, and we cannot contact a recruit again until after the national championship game. If that's the deal, we would lose an entire recruiting season. Orsini's waiver to recruit ran out on November 10. We haven't had anyone on the road for weeks.

the Daily Campus reported last friday that we would have a coach by the end of this week

Trust me, no silly bowl game is going to get in the way of someone signing a million dollar contract.

He won't be "abandoning" his team. He could even coach Navy in the bowl after signing with SMU, if all sides agree. Doubtful, as much help as SMU needs immediately, but it does happen.

Absolutely right.

He might be Don Shula, Woody Hayes and George Halas all wrapped into one, but if he's going to be the next coach, get on with it and get to recruiting. I want recruiting news.

Actually it was a quote from President Turner. He said that we would have a coach by Thursday or Friday of this week. He said that early this week would be intensive, I would assume that to mean interviews, negotiations, etc., and then a decision would be made.

We waited until after the regular season so we wouldn't be stepping on toes of other ADs. Some of you may ask, "why did we fire PB so early then?". Well, I believe that was to end all speculation, which was a major distraction to the team, the coaches, and the media. All in all, I believe President Turner and hope to know by the end of the week.

not to be a jerk, but if Johnson doesn't commit like tomorrow, we need to move to Plan B and tee something else up. This is gonna be a tough job, we can't have a guy lukewarm about it. If his heart is in Navy or the BCS, thats where he needs to be. I have a hard time believing his heart and mind will be at SMU when it comes right down to signing on the dotted line. We are in a real danger area right now because apparently Johnson is not at all firmly committed to SMU despite all this rhetoric the past few weeks about Steve O having his man.

And if we go to Plan B it better be soon so it doesn't look to recruits like Plan B. Or C. Or D.
