Doesn't sound unrealistic from what I'm hearing. I think we have a real shot.

People whine about SMU being an elitist school, but we've got nothing on Puke.

Well, if the this is guy saying that GTech was a high-profile guy, then maybe Tom Dienhart of The Sporting News could have been correct about Neuheisel?
Consider this that the personalities of Johnson and Chan Gailey appear to be pretty similar.
And if you're Johnson, you will always run second fiddle to Coach K at Duke. Spurrier and him had some overlap. That's it. If you come here, you have a chance to succeed and be the big dog.
I'm not saying Paul Johnson is coming here. But I'm just throwing this out there.

The offer and numbers were talked before last night and today. If PJ took the time to come to SMU and bring his wife, he is interested. Let's just hope he liked what he saw. If he didn't, bring on June Jones. That guy can coach too.

We all have our reasons why PJ should or shouldn't come to SMU. But why should he not go to Georgia T or Duke. I'll try to keep it short and sweet.
To me it's obvious why he won't go to Duke, he will always be the second favorite son to Coach K and football will always be the second sport on campus. There are other reasons such as schedule, facilities, etc. but I think this enough. PJ does not strike me as a guy who wants to be the sencond son to anyone.
GT already wins 7 games a year or more. Johnson has as history taking teams from the bottom to the top. This job will be a stepping stone for a big BCS gig if he is successful. He will be expected to be equally as successful as Chan Gailey who won 7 games this year but was fired because he couldn't beat Georgia. If he doesn't match the previous coaches success he will be looked at as failure and he'll have little possiblilty to move on to that big BCS gig.
Any coach that comes to SMU and wins 7-8 games for a couple of years can write his own ticket. That in my opinion for what little it's worth may be enough (along with $2 Million a year) to bring PJ to Dallas.

I'd take Jones over Johnson in a heartbeat. If Jones can get an undefeated season in Hawaii, he can do it in CUSA. Hawaii would have easily won CUSA this year. Guys like Graham Harrell would want to come here instead of playing in the west TX desert.

Well,
Over on the GT board they are saying that the radio is reporting that PJ is going to GT.

Ummm... it's not so obvious if you consider that they'd have a non-WAC schedule. I wasn't referring to the record.

Didn't we have a radio report earlier on saying he was coming here? The media is suspect at best.
On the other hand, if true, then let's get Fran...we know his wife wants to be in the Park Cities.

Yeah, and how often does a radio show get a scoop on something like this first? It hasn't been reported anywhere yet.

Question...and Darth has no idea what the answer is...
Anybody think that Turner refused to give PJ complete control over football, i.e., admissions in this morning's meeting? And that is what stopped the deal?
Another thing...if PJ was coming here wouldn't a Navy team meeting be scheduled by now to give them the info?
Or is PJ waiting to see if Navy will match our offer?
