Did it ever occur to any of you......

.......that Johnson could be using SMU as leverage to bring up the offers from Georgia Tech and Duke? For twenty years since the Death Penalty we've never gone anywhere close to $1,000,000 for a head coach because we have bet on rolling the dice with unproven coaches that had no previous head coaching experience. After Phil Bennett was fired the word got out we were willing to pay big money, so the good coaches are going to end up using us (SMU) to command a higher salary elsewhere. I just hope Steve O and Turner are not naive and fall for something like that.

No, it wouldn't surprise me or be an issue. It is what anyone would do in his situation.

Duke is not a contender for PJ. I think we will pay more for PJ than GT will

PJ is a friend of Orsini's, and I doubt he would intentionally do that to a friend. That being said, it doesn't mean that we aren't driving up the price if, say, GT decides they want him at all cost. He would, of course, turn down his friend politely if there was a much better offer out there. However, I think their supposed friendship is a good sign that we could get last crack at making an offer.

I actually think Paul Johnson has been a standup guy. He said he would wait until after the season and then check out his options. That's what he appears to be doing. I'm not even convinced he's leaving unless GT offers.

Meant to apply to the situation when someone speaks from his @ss like Stallion is in the habit of doing.
