Other than Johnson, who?

It appears that PJ is our #1 candidate. Other than PJ, who else is currently a consideration? And has anyone other than PJ visited the campus? Visited with Orsini?

I know some names have been toss about but over the last couple of days the potential candidates other than Johnson have been a little difficult to ascertain.

Supposedly Gill declined the interview. Only wanted the Nebraska job or to stay where he is.

Said he was contacted by one other school, but didn't specify which. Can only assume it was SMU since he hasn't been mentioned for any other job than WSU, and that has only been open for a few days. Looks like the rumors that he turned down the interview must be true.

They should look into Neuheisel.

What happens if Johnson decides to stay at Navy and GT hires Neuheisel?

Honestly, that might be a very real possibility. If that's the case:

Jeff Bower?
Fran?

Glen Mason
Fran
Bill Callahan (not really)
Not turner gill

gotta wonder why Mason's name hasn't come up in any of these searches...must be something we don't know

Fran looks like damaged goods...with violations tagging along behind him. Unbelieveable that an Aggie in$ider would call him out on that newsletter. The Aggie$ have always been good at keeping their cheating way "in house"

Neuheisel may have baggage although I don't remember him actually getting busted for any violations

ditto for Bowden...baggage we don't fully appreciate

Shula must not be interested in the college game

Chan Gailey is looming large

There is nobody else. If PJ does not sign on the dotted line, Orsini goes on suicide watch.

OK, so you obviously don't know Steve-O. He rarely misses out on something he goes after, and if he does, I'm guessing it becomes a personal challenge and he goes out and gets someone even better.

With that said, it somehow feels like this "what if we don't get PJ?" scenario is something that may need to be addressed, and soon.

No, I don't know Steve-O, and frankly, I hope you are right, but the realist in me tells me the same things.
a) Turner and O got on the same page about Johnson...I don't believe another coach would present the same likemindedness between the two of them
b) If it isn't a fit for Johnson, SMU's behavior has set him as the only candidate...at least from the outside looking in. How's that going to look going forward? Ouch.
c) At what point does the administration risk alienating the faculty by paying ever more to the coach (nevermind that it wouldn't ever go to the faculty instead...it is the principle of the thing to them) or worse, hiring someone they don't agree with...that's when Turner's commitment gets put to the test.

They've orchestrated the GWB library. A coach's salary will be less of an issue than the library.

My wife is an assoc professor and would like for SMU to do well in athletics. It only helps the school. Professors probably just prefer that the athletes in their classes be good students.
