Austin American Statesman Wednesday, December 5, 2007 reported that University of Houston has contacted former Washington Redskins and UH Coach Jack Pardee, age 71, about coming back to coach the cougars. ( This is no BS) Pardee said that " I have been contacted by UH and if they are really interested, I am too". Pardee continued in saying he is " not looking for a job and if they find someone else, I 100% back that"....In 1988 Pardee's UH cougars beat Texas 66-15 in Austin. In 1989 QB Andre Ware won the Heisman Trophy while at Houston, Houston was 1-10 the year before Jack Pardee took over as HC in 1987. Pardee had a winning record each year he coached there....

Reported earlier BUT, I just wanted to interject that Houston is hoping to Pardee like it's 95-21.

I've heard rumors that if Pardee is hired, David Klingler is will be his OC.
Weird...I wonder if they'll bring on Manny Hazzard to coach WRs.
And Weatherspoon to coach RBs and Lamar Lathon to coach LBs.

Actually Jason Phillips is already on the interim staff to help coach at the Texas Bowl.

I like Maggard's aggresiveness but he mightbe off his rocker by bringing back those guys back.

The amazing thing back then was Pardee, who I don't think had coached at a Div 1 college before, signed what was described as the worst recruiting class in the SWC his first year. However, Pardee stated on signing day what a great group of athletes he had signed by finding guys others did not know about......That group had winning seasons every year Pardee was there and sent 5 guys to the NFL and produced 1 heisman trophy winner !!.....Forget whether you like UH or not, that guy was great at coaching and used his abilities at pro scouting players to out recruit the experts.,

He truly sucked as Redskins head coach. Great Defensive coordinator.

The FIRST guy that Osborne and Pelini offered a scholarship to after he Pelini got hired this week is from a VERY small town in Nebraska, and not being recruited by anyone--0 STARS! (Actually, not even rated.)

He was so bad he was NFL coach of the year in 1979 for the Redskins. Also won it in 1976 with the Bears.

True - he had one or two good years, but overall - BLEAH!
Highly doubt the Klingler-as-OC suggestion. He's teaching theology somewhere, and sounds (at least in one interview I read) like he doesn't miss football, wants to do this forever, yada yada yada.

Pardee had zero playoff appearances with the Redskins. 8-8, 10-6, 6-10.

I also read in the houston paper about Pardee and Klinger.
But it sounds doubtful, didn't they try a similar situation when
they hired Clyde Drexler for their b-ball coach.
