Was this the WORST possible year for a coaching change?i still hold out hope that we can land PJ. That being said, all signs point to a GT press conference this week, and we all know who they are targeting. i know every year has many vacancies at various schools, but it seems that this offseason they are more HIGH PROFILE than ever before:
Michigan Nebraska Arkansas Texas A&M UCLA GT Wake Forest (soon) Duke Wash St Baylor Southern Miss Ole Miss If PJ is not our man, I sure hope we can lock up #2 THIS WEEK!!!
Where are you getting you information about a press conference. The GT message boards are all talking about how much they hate PJ and who is going to be the next option for coach
I'm sorry, i was referring to the NAVY message boards: Good sources confirm Georgia Tech has an 11 a.m. news conference scheduled for today to announce their new head coach. Eyewitnesses have confirmed that Coach Johnson is currently in Ricketts Hall. Keep refreshing www.ajc.com and Wag's blog: http://www.hometownannapo...agner.html That's what I am doing. Actually this might be the BEST possible year for a coaching change, because there are a lot of very good solid coaches in play. Guys like Chan Gailey, Dennis Franchione, Houston Nutt, and Jeff Bower didn't merit a pink slip and other coaches who did, have had success prior to their current job, like the Nebraska and Baylor coach. In other words, this is a great year to jump in when you have a wad of cash. Not only that, but if you're there to bid up the other guys, that's going to raise the cost for everyone else which makes the BCS guys begin to get nervous.
I think the implication is that LAST year would have been better, not NEXT year. -CoS
If we do not get PJ, from alll appearances we gave it our best effort. Just like recruiting we have no real control over the final result. We should not dwell on it but move on to our next choice and get it done.
There were 23 openings last year, including Alabama. There have been 16 openings this year so far (including Wake Forest, which opened last night). The average is 18 per year. I don't think this year is any better or worse than last year.
That is exactly what I meant..thanks Cadillac. We all know PB had to go.

I feel the same way, just from the other end of the spectrum. Rumors have been swirling around Georgia Southern's head coach as a candidate for the GT job. I'm not sure which is worse, worrying about losing your head coach, or trying to find a new one. Good luck landing PJ (as long as that doesn't mean GT comes for my coach!)
I like Hatcher, btw. Always a guy I thought SMU should look at, but that isn't the direction we are going in.
Thanks, and please don't look at him. Nothing to see there. Move along ![]() ![]()
Surely, you can't be suggesting we take Bill Callahan? I just got rid of him!
