Fran vs PJ
What's the difference: a few e-mails.
Both run the same offense or very close--some variation of the triple option. When Fran gave over the play calling in the UT game to the OC that was very good O production. They really mixed it up. That was a real college offense, mixing passes/runs.
I was not impressed by the Navy O at all--humdrum all the way. The did run the FB up the middle a lot--whopee! I don't get all the hoopla about this guy. Plus their D is awful.
Give me Fran minus the emails.

I just don't want all the "you got our cast-off coach at a fire sale" attitude from all the aggies if we get Fran...
Course it would be nice if Fran could beat the aggies in 2009 if he was here (boy, I am dreaming now...)

there's a difference.....So you are suggesting for the rest of the season Fran was the problem.

Fran's play calling was a real problem--way way way too conserative. The UT game showed what that O can look like.
Fran and his staff have been in the Big 12 wars. They know big time football. I think they can handle C-USA. And Frans know how to recruit Texas.

By far his biggest selling point, if you ask me.
Isn't his son a big-time JUCO coach somewhere? Any talented players there that he could funnel to dear ol' Dad?

Really? Is that why he's had some of the worst recruiting classes at atm over the last couple of years (43rd best class last year, 27th best in 2006 ala rivals)?
He never vied for the Big XII title, never beat OU and only beat Texas 2 out of 5 tries. He had two of the worst defeats ever at atm (77-0 blanking by OU and losing to Baylor). If he can't get it done at atm, why would you think he can get it done at SMU?
If SMU brings on Fran I will walk away from this program - not that it means much to most of you.

Besides, do you really want a coach that sells out his players for a few bucks? That guy is a scumbag.

I am opposed to Fran because as soon as he signs the deal he will be contacting other programs to find his next stop.

A look at Fran's record objectively shows that he has done pretty well over the years. He is not perfect. Call him names if you want. He would come here and win games. Something that hasn't been done in 20 years. If he is gone in 5 years with a winning record I will be very happy.

And if he turned us into a winner you and everyone else would sneak right back onto the bandwagon...just like all those people who jumped off (and now back on) the Mavs bandwagon after all those lean years.

Problem is that I don't think he would give us 5 years...I think if he got us 7 wins next year then it is goodbye Fran.

Either Fran or Johnson will be out the door if they're successful here. I prefer Johnson, but if not him, Fran would not be the worst candidate out there. He has been successful even on the Barf Yellow Campus in Ft. Worth. He can recruit Texas and would not be the worst choice out there.
