It's becoming more and more clear, in my opinion, that Johnson isn't coming. That's fine - do what's best for the family, etc.
So who should Steve-O and his merry minions be focusing on now? My top 5:
1. June Jones (what kind of numbers would Willis put up on THAT offense?)
2. Chris Peterson (what the hell - aim high. Worst case, he says no)
3. Jeff Bower (revenge can be quite motivating)
4. Dave Christenson (Mizzou put up a ton of yards/points)
5. Fran (might have to be flea-dipped to get some of the Aggie off him, but he can recruit)

3-5 are the only possibilities that are realistic, IMO. I also believe that 4 falls into the broader category which I espoused previously, that of the nondescript coordinator.

Where is Chis Peterson in all these talks. I've heard him involved some with UCLA but damn if you had to draw up a Coach for 2007 who would be a perfect candidate it would look like him. I'm shocked a school like GaTech isn't all over him-he is what they say they are looking for. A&M, Arkansas, Michigan, Miss, Ga Tech-and nobody wants Peterson.

Bower won't get a sniff here...He was on the staff that got us the death penalty...That is fact...

If I put down Fran the guy from UT will never come to another SMU football game. What to do, what to do. Fran.

Do you think SMU would employ a "Death Penalty Staff" coach? They were all in on it (to some extent) - just that Bootsie got most of the negative ink - staffwise.

I mentioned him a month ago and nobody agreed with me. He will probably go to ucla.

Where all those that would say Peterson won with guys Hawkins recruited; let's see how he does with his own. Also, where are the guys that would say he's been able to get it done with non-qualifiers & jucos mostly from California, that Boise is easy to get into?
Not saying I'm one of those guys.

If the list is coaches we are NOT going to hire, then yes, he should be at the top. He has not been involved in coaching or more importantly, recruiting, in the past 9 years. If he is such a good choice, why is no one else even considering him? Had he decided to work for his brother or Dad for a couple of years, that would be one thing. There is a reason why he is not getting looks this off season, and you need to drop your man crush on the guy.
Unless, of course, you are in fact Terry Bowden and you are angling for the job, then I guess it would be alright for you to have a man crush on yourself. You still won't be getting a job here, however.
