I think for the kind of money SMU is throwing around he would jump aboard pretty quick. My vote's for Shula

I like Shula a lot too......
Maybe what GJF-1 was doing in Miami after all? Anyone know where Mike lives these days? Are the stadium lights on again tonight?

I would take Shula.
He would be a bit of a gamble.
But we gotta get somebody.
I think Orsini has always liked Shula.
He could be the backup candidate.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Let me re-do my top 5 to include Shula:
1. June Jones (what kind of numbers would Willis put up on THAT offense?)
2. Chris Peterson (what the hell - aim high. Worst case, he says no)
3. Jeff Bower (revenge can be quite motivating)
4. Mike Shula
5. Dave Christenson (Mizzou put up a ton of yards/points)

Ha ha - June Jones is not coming to SMU. Chris Peterson is not coming to SMU. Jeff Bower is not coming to SMU. Mike Shula - don't think so. Christenson - Could be the one but not the one people hope.
Would people on this board be happy with Christenson nowadays after 5 weeks? Everyone seems stressed. I told you all on day 1 it would not be easy for SMU.

I think most SMU fans would be pumped about a Shula hire. If anything, he sure will be able to do a better job recruiting then Johnson.

Point taken for the umpteenth time. I think you are wrong at this point. Somebody will jump for that kind of money. Trouble is, analogous to the "would people on this board be happy..." vein, would other coaches not as high up the totem pole come to SMU for less? Uh...that's a much bigger problem than the babbling that goes on here.

Mike Shula has always been at the top of my list. Great Plan B and with the money talked about lately he could very possibly be drawn from the NFL. Considering what we've had here the last 10 years he's a WOW coach to me.

my guess is that feelers went out to Shula early in this process and the fact his name is not being mentioned in connection with any of these jobs tells me he is going the NFL route

I would agree with that. Especially since he got fired for a guy getting $32 mil to lose to LA Monroe!

You are wrong. Shula is a terrible in-game coach. He has shown himself to be a very good recruiter, but if you look at the offensive product of Alabama while he was there it was atrocious. The success he enjoyed - though limited it was - was nearly 100% attributable to the defense. He had 0 role in coaching the defense - that was the sole responsibility of Joe Kines.
