An optimistic thought... (My guess on where things are).

Theres a multitude of story
Some is clean and some is gory
But there is no need to worry
If youre sold or if youre bought
Were just spinning on some granite
That we like to call a planet
And if you need to contemplate
Well heres an optimistic thought

Life I embrace you
I shall honor and disgrace you
Please forgive if I replace you
You see Im going through some pain
But now I see clearly
And the dawn is coming nearly
And though Im human and its early
I swear Ill never forget again

I am, at heart, an optimistic cynic. I believe that good things are possible and I hope for the best; I just expect that someone is going to screw it up.

If I were to put money on where things stand at this moment, I would put it on the following: SMU has blown away the Georgia Tech offer; Paul Johnson has given Navy the chance to match. I expect they have until the end of the day to do that.

This is just a guess, which is all I think anybody has right now-a guess. Nobody knows. This is my guess. Make of it what you will.

Word to the wise on Plan B. Recall that nobody knew what Plan A was until Monday.

Has he maxed out at Navy? While SMU is not in a bsc conference and has not had any success in 20 years, he is SMU's first choice...unlike Duke and Ga. Tech. He also is familar with Orsini and will have full support of the administration. He would be the main man here and get to build something Gregg, Rosley, Cavan, and Bennett couldn't .......ahhh, wishful thinking.

I argee with Blog. But I will go as far to say from all the articles I have read about Johnson, he's ready to move on and leave Navy. He doesn't want to totally cut his ties with Navy and I believe this "opportunity to match" SMU's offer is just typical protocol. That way the Navy AD can say we tried to keep him and PJ can say I gave them an opportunity to match the other offers. But in the end PJ is moving on, he's ready for new challenges. What else does he have left to prove at Navy? They can't win a confrence championship, because they're independent. He's beat Army and Air Force almost every year and he can't play for a national championship at Navy. The best he can do is go to a bowl game each year and he has done that the past 5 years. Now we're back to square one, will he chose SMU?

No. Just like a University, the athletic department budgets are relatively separate. The guys on their board keep mentioning the NAAA--which I can only imagine means Naval Academy Athletic Association--pays the salary and is funded by boosters just like anywhere else.
