I don't think Bennett was ever going to go to Baylor where he would get the dregs of recruits from the Big 12 and watch his defense fail again. He's going to go to a school where he can get some decent players and implement his defensive schemes once again, and watch them actually work, and he will be viewed as a great coach again. Not saying he's not, but he wasn't going to go to the SMU of the Big 12 and be burned in effigy again.

Aren't we hoping SMU has in his contract we will cover the difference between a new contract and what he was making at SMU like most other coaches have? That way we don't have to pay him as much. Frees up some cash

I read that somewhere the past few days. Don't know if that was speculation or not. That is in a lot of coaches contracts though.

I'm sure SMU doesn't think of stuff like that when negotiating contracts.
