I have heard differently. Barnett is out. Neuhiesel is still in consideration.

It would be great if we got Rick Neuheisel, but who's Rick Neuhiesel?

Spelling jokes. I know. Petty.

I can appreciate that type of humor. No worries.

If PJ does not work out soon, Orsini should starting taking a look at Neuhiesel as he is someone who has shown serious interest in the SMU job. Neuhiesel, who I hear is endored by New England HC., is about my 5 th choice but is better than Gailley, Kragthorpe, and Fran.

Thanks Mu$tang for the clarification. Sorry for the confusion between Rick Neuheisel and Rick Neuhiesel. I know there is a huge difference between the two names.

They should start talking to him today and publicaly. Johnson is shopping the deal he has in hand from us - hard. Pressure must be created and quickly to move hime along. He is either coming or he isn't and the longer we wait the less likely that becomes, unfortunately. If you want to move the ball (no pun intended) start publicly talking to RN. If PJ works out, great. If not, RN is a great option as well.

I'd take Neuheisel, Bowden or Barnett in a heartbeat. Turner needs to get over it.

HAVE WE ALL FORGOTTEN OR GIVEN UP ON THE NEED TO MAKE A SPLASH??????????

I agree completely with your sentiment. Turner has his panties in a very thorough wad. However... what would be the press reaction to someone with a controversial past? Nevermind the "splash" hire... do you think Dale Hansen wouldn't have a field day with that?

He'd have a hissy fit if John McCaa stole his headline though.

Slick Rick would be a pretty good fit to me, NFL experience, known around the country, good recruiter, and it would make people start talking about SMU (all press is good press). He also would bring an offense that would suit the players we have better than PJ's. Dont get me wrong, PJ is a good coach but it would take at least 2 years to get comfortable running anything that resembled a smooth option offense and it would probably have to be with a bunch of different players. Neuhiesel would bring in a pro style spread and be able to tutor Willis and hopefully drastically improve his decision making.

I'm going to disagree with that. While Willis isn't a burner, he's elusive as hell and a good runner when he hold on to the ball. In fact his feet are what makes him so effective, not his arm. If PJ would mix play action with option, it would give defenses fits (at least as a former DE it'd drive me nutz). Also, I think Mapps and Butler (both being fast, but not particularly big) would be better in PJ's offense considering the fact that we have a small-ish OL.

Then look at our backup QB's...

Rhodes is a freakish athlete who runs a sub 4.4. Turner was a regional qualifier in track, running mid-distance sprint relays. He also racked up 1,500+ yards on the ground in addition to the 7,800 he threw for. Neither of those guys are what you'd call a prototypical Pro-style QB (not sure if either is truly 6'), but I bet they'd be deadly in a more non-conventional offense.

Rick hasn't done much other than win a Rose Bowl in recent history. I guess it wouldn't be bad to have him.

Not arguing that. Just saying that I believe PJ's offense would be effective, could be implemented quickly, and we have suitable personnel on campus now to make it happen.

It didn't take PJ long to install his offense and make it effective for a crappy team. And you don't have to rewind much tape to see it either. Remember PJ's first game at Navy (also Phil's first game on the Hilltop)? The lit us (and our endzone) up (literally).
