Take $2 million from the $10-12 million and buyout three of those houses on SMU blvd and then offer PJ a shorter contract with high incentives at the end

Umm.. with 2 million, you might buy one house near the school. Not enough for all the assistant coaches.

Frankly, I think SMU has already made some kind of housing offer to Johnson or else they would already be out of the mix.

Yeah, it appears that $2 million would only buy you condos in UP right next to the school...can schools rent houses? I did the math and that actually would be feasible for some houses on Golf...although it's a terrible investment.

Yeah, if we are still in the running, we probably countered with some kind of home incentive...or something similar. Did Bennett/Staff get some kind of car deal? Every football coach seemed to have the same model Volvo, was that something in his contract? Anyone know?

I thought SMU already owned many of the residential properties next to campus, between the university and 75

Coach Bennett drives a Denali SUV — yes, it's in a deal with the school. Assistant coaches drive their own (and definitely don't have the same model).

You planning to squeeze them into Gary Vodicka's old place?

Most of the campus-owned property ain't exactly coach-quality.

Then what is the deal with all of those brand new Volvo S60s (different colors) that are always parked in the back of the Meadows Museum or along Moody? Someone definitely started a trend there or something...I used to work at the Museum as a student and I used to see 4-6 parked in the back lot and athletic staff (coaches?) walking from them into the stadium all the time.

I think the university buys up houses surrounding the campus (for future growth) as they become available, and rents them out.

The University also owns the Expressway Tower and I believe the office buildings at 6120 & 6200 N. Central.

Perhaps they could convert some of the vacant space in the Expessway Tower into penthouse condos for the football coaches.

I am almost positive that the university has homes for the coaches. I know that Cavan and Copeland lived within 2 blocks of each other and I believe President Turner lived in that same neighborhood. The houses were right down the street from what you might call the physical plant. I went to Cavan's home several times and I am pretty sure they didn't own. He lived in a nice apartment across hillcrest and then moved over once they were able to get all the painting and all that jazz done

I'm pretty sure that under Cavan, all of the coaches made their own car deals with various dealerships.
