For the Record: SMU is Making Big Mistake on Todd Dodge

OK lets get all of you experts on the record. Its easy to claim someone is going to be a great Coach after 10 bowl games. Let's see how many of you can spot the qualities of a great Coach BEFORE they are great. Just like with Todd Graham I say that Todd Dodge would be a great Head Coach for SMU. Not my first choice but it appears that Johnson, Barnett, Bowden, Franchione, Neuheisal and all the other big names are not availiable despite large amounts of cash. Now we are looking at the Troy Calhouns of the world to run still more option . I don't want a poll-I want names, addresses and ID cards so I can rub this in your faces in a few years

Well Stallion, I remember you promoting Gary Gibbs so can we rub your face in that?

Stallion,
Dodge would not be a bad hire, I agree with you. I don't think he's the best we can do right now.

I think Bo Pelini is going to be a good HC;

I think Chris Hatcher is going to be a good HC;

I think Will Muschamp is going to be a good HC.

I don't think SMU has an interest in any of them.

Am I allowed to say Dodge is going to be good or have you called "dibs"?

As posted in another thread, Dodge is in my top 5:

Barnett
Bowden
Fran
Dodge
Neuheisel

I really do think any of these 5 would accept the position without much hesitation. Additionally we do not need to break the bank to hire any of them other than maybe Fran.

stallion, in your infinite wisdom and supreme knowledge of most everything on every topic, do you know for a fact that we are not talking to Todd Graham or Todd Dodge? Calhoun put his name in the paper that he didn't want to pursue our job, maybe because he did not want to leave his alma mater.

At the kind of money we are throwing around, I would set your sights much higher.

No. You can't say Dodge is going to be good. Stallion has "dibs."

If SMU hired Dodge right now, I really question what that would do to his reputation. Same with Graham.

I used to have some criteria I wanted to see for this job--not another coordinator (tried that, didn't work), not another D-1aa coach (ditto).

Now I have narrowed it down to one single requirement: not dead.

Horrible recruiter, his team was never ranked higher at the end of the season than it was at the beginning even with all the gun runners and dealers OU had playing for them at the time, was run out of OU and never given another sniff for a HC job. How does that qualify as an outstanding choice??

Horrible Recruiter? Are you drunk? He didn't succeed because he was Coaching with one hand tied behind his back becuse the NCAA imposed severe penalties on the number of scholarships OU could give out due to Switzer's probation. Were you born at the time? Horrible recruiter? OK-and I guess that's because you actually followed OU recruiting?
