Rick Neuheisel

Postby ponyphi07 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 12:49 pm

Okay Rick Nueheisel is our best bet. He already said we are a diamond in the Rough. I know everyone has already heard this, but he would be a WOW coach. He is great with Quarterbacks and could probably make Justin Willis play like he did his freshman year again. His sanctions against him were stupid and the NCAA admitted to being wrong too.

"That fall, the NCAA infractions committee found Neuheisel violated NCAA rules against gambling but didn't sanction him, citing the memo by Washington's former compliance officer that mistakenly authorized this type of gambling. It also became apparent that the NCAA violated its own rules when questioning Neuheisel about the gambling.Legal proceedings enabled Neuheisel to collect a $4.5 million settlement and essentially clear him of wrongdoing as the NCAA and University of Washington were forced to abandon their case."

SMU needs to bring in another flashy blonde haired semi-young head coach like we had in Ron Meyer in the 80's. This guy knows what he is doing and has a name around the country. If Gerald "Dumb-ass" Turner thinks these sanctions are bad enough to make him not a candidate he clearly didn't do his research. He would probably bring in some pretty top notch assistants too. Clearly Ford's plane knows how to get to Baltimore, Orsini make it happen.

Screw the sanctions, I can’t even pronounce the guys last name. I just don’t get the fascination with this him??? I think someone made up this suggestion on ponyfans.com and it took off from there. Sorry, I don’t want to ever see Fords Jet back in Baltimore again. How humiliating would that be???

A complete waste of time.

The only thing you need to know about Slick Rick is that he got thrown out of the Tyler Lee fieldhouse for his boorish conduct.

He is a more than experienced coach, with a good recruiting back ground and great with quarterbacks. Who would you rather have a wash up like Fran?

All I am saying is that he has commented on SMU, clearly he is interested. We can't even get the Air Force coach to be interested for more money. I know you think we are going to get somebody better, but this guy could make some good things happen at SMU.

Looks like our options are Slick Rick or Phil Bennett #2, send Ford's jet on the same flight plan and pick up someone who is actually interested in our job instead of someone playing us for more money.

You sure you want to stand behind that recruiting line?

re: "I just don’t get the fascination with this him???"

Well who do you propose that has this kind of resume?

He won the Pac 10 Conference
He won the Rose Bowl
He won the Cotton Bowl
Has been the head coach in 7 bowls.
He finished 3rd in the country in the final polls.
He has been the head coach at 2 major football schools. (Colorado & Washington)
He is curently in the NFL working as the offensive of the Baltimore Ravens
He is still relatively young.
And he is INTERESTED in the SMU job!

Oh please. Who cares if he got tossed out of Tyler Lee's fieldhouse? If he (or any coach) started winning and getting state-wide (or dare we say "national" attention), HS coaches - including those bastions of etiquette in East Texas - would start sending bouquets of flowers to sweet-talk him into taking their players.

Besides, if a guy can recruit, Coach Doherty has shown that players don't have to come from Texas. I don't know what kind of stranglehold you think the Texas HS coaches have an the world's football talent, but you're giving them waaaaaaaay too much credit. Slick Rick can recruit, I gather, and one east Texas town isn't going to change that.

Not a candidate. Had to forfeit an entire season for playing an ineligible player at Colorado.

NCAA violations + investigation at UW = baggage = not on Turner's list

This list is really starting to anger me though.

See thread "F Turner's List"!
