I was in Phoenix for the Super Bowl, and the Friday before the game is the commissioner's party. There were a lot of bigwigs there and a lot of people that really have no business being there, like me. I'm at the bar and standing a few feet away by himself is Rick Neuheisel, who i think had just finished his first year at Colorado. So I walk over just to say hi and BS with him for awhile, but at the same time try not to appear as a stalker in the Ponyfans sense of the word.
Anway I was really impressed. There was no pretense about him, and we talked about his team, the Super Bowl, the Big 12, and a bunch of other subjects. He even managed to feign interest in our conversation, which, if you've spoken to me, takes real talent. All in all, he was a cool guy willing to talk football with a nobody stranger over booze, which makes him okay in my book.
I know most are saying that we are not going to take a coach with any baggage. But if we're willing to take one with some, I don't think he'd be a bad choice at all. I think everyone knows his background and that he's qualified. I think, based on my 10 minute conversation with him, that he'd be a pretty good recruiter.

and the main thing is he is one of a very select few that has publicly stated interest in the SMU job.

But we are unable to feign interest in your post.

Like I stated in the Karl Dorell thread that I think got deleted, pair him with KD and you have the makings of a very good staff. Rick just wants to get back into college coaching and openly showed interest in the job. KD just got fired from UCLA, which pays very poorly. I think with the money raised we could afford both. Just get a great defensive coordinator and a great recruiting coordinator and you have the makings of an excellent staff.

Not that this has anything to do with this thread, but I am mesmerized by the purple hippo... sometimes I pause before continuing on in a givene thread just watch him do his thing.
Long live the purple hippo.

Now back to the thread, I'd rather have Barnett. Just my $.02

Thad I agree something must be done to immortalize the purple hippo!
We either need "I was there on Pony Fans on Purple Hippo Day" t-shirts or something that extends this Hippo mania.....although I think putting the Hippo on our new football helmets could be a bit much.

I agree that the March Madness thing is nothing. If you're publicly cleared of something, you'd think it would be forgiven. Some other people on the board have mentioned him playing an ineligible player at CU and it costing the school games. I don't know any of the specifics about it but that might be something holding back interest in him. I think he'd make a great coach.

Of any school, SMU should be the one to hire the guy who managed to stick it to the NCAA! Get it done!
And then get Schumann here as DC.
