from the AJC and taken from GT AD Dan Radakovich...

"Johnson on Friday agreed to a seven-year deal worth more than $11 million, Tech athletics director Dan Radakovich said."

four quick points...

(1) more than $11M means "more than 11 but not more than 12"

(2) quick math (with a conservative assumption of $11.9M) says he is averaging no more than about $1.7M per year on a 7 year deal

(3) current USNA salary was approx $1.5M per year

(4) SMU and Duke (supposedly) offered him more than $2M per year

i thought the numbers were higher based on this mornings speculation....thoughts?

every column I've seen about PJ's Navy salary talked about incentives. Did we ever get a hard number about what his guaranteed money per year really was?

Tech may have a tough time with the assistants from Navy being that not only were then well compensated at USNA but they were also provided housing at no cost. not sure Tech could provide housing costs on top of a salary after paying PJ and Chan.

So when you figure in the disparity in salary along with state income tax, PJ went to Ga Tech for half a million less than what SMU offered.

Great point..

While you are at it, it is only fair to consider any other perks he may or may not have received for SMU or GTech.

Unless we have the offers in front of us, we won't be able to do that math; so, offer comparisons is futile.

Bottom line, he went there for a lot of reasons other than money.

Smart people don't make job decisions soley on money.

The incentive package could be huge, and there may be re-negotiation options in the incentive package too. (ie: Win the ACC--get $300,000 this year and we bump the salary from here on out to 2.5, or beat UGA 3 times in a row and get 3 mil)

......Also a little thing called the BCS! :x
