Troy Calhoun seems like a great hire, but he's a 1989 AFA graduate. Is he going to leave after one year at his alma mater to go to a comparable non-BCS school? AFA is #37 in the composite rankings this year and Calhoun is a finalist for the top coach award. A&M is ranked #37 and Navy is #59. AFA's three losses were all on the road (UNM, Navy and BYU) and they went 6-0 at home.
These aren't his recruits at AFA and it's only been one year of results, but if he'd leave (lots more $$$?), he could be a great one. I think he'll stay and use any discussions for more money at his alma mater.

i was surprised that he didnt at least entertain the idea of taking the SMU job. as an air force fan, i want him to stay put but talk about getting someone on the "cheap". his salary is like $500k per year right now and I would think that SMU could offer him at least $1M+ per year. hell, he could used SMU as a bargaining chip.
oh well...

And that's just what we need, someone else using us a bargaining chip. He is a quality coach although not as high profile as PJ, but I have more respect for him by being upfront about his level of interest. PJ used us and based on the quote in DMN article from his press conference, we were never seriously in the running and were used strictly as a stalking horse to get GT to up its offer.

I was talking about this guy, with a friend at Special D on Friday morning. We thought he would be worth checking out, and last night Kate's story came out.

totally ridiculous. Gill would be a much better hire than this guy for SMU. losing faith by the minute.

ridiculous? you have got to be kidding....shouldn't any head coach we are looking to hire at least have a winning record? shouldnt that be by far, one of the most basic prerequisites....a winning record....maybe not in you're book i guess.

Calhoun is not coming. Gill is not coming. They have both turned us down. Get over it.
