Razorback fan I spoke with about their vacancy sounded just like us. They're terrified of now getting a no-name coordinator.

We are joined - in a bad way - with Arkansas. Houston Nutt and PB were in exactly the same boat - a year apart. When the new AD comes in, if you haven't won six Natl. Championships in a row, you're gone. The new guy is ganna get HIS guy. PB had no options. Nutt did. It was a huge mistake for Orsini to wait a year to do what he already knew he was gonna do. He is competing with a ton more schools this year. He had to know at least the front end of that equation last year. He had many more options last year. SMU was still SMU. No more - no less - desirable for prsopective coaches. But, even the bottom-feeder coaching propsects have far more options this year. Frankly, I'm not sure it speaks very well of Mr. O's decision making ability to have put off the task of replacing PB. He'll need to get lucky now.

From what I understand Gary Patterson is still on their radar. More talk right now but people believe he could be a fit if he gets the right staff. And forget that wife wanting to stay in FW baloney. Those people use that like it's a freakin' trump card reason for him to stay.

You can win at Arkansas. You've got the whole state behind -- I think -- and if you get the right things, you're in the BCS mix. Houston Nutt showed them that program can get there, even though he fell a bit short.

BTW, anyone have any Cotton Bowl tickets to sell,

Big difference, we fired a coach that hadn't produce. Arkansas fired a winner. ANd don't think potential candidates don't evaluate that situation. How attractive is it to establish coach to know that a school will fire you for winning? Arkansas is pulling a Nebraska prior to Callahan. Fire a proven winner is not a great way to attract a new coach. It indicates to the coach that no matter what he does, he will be fired. The ultimate lose-lose situation.

Exactly. It will be interesting to keep score on suicide vs. murders as the Arkansas process develops. We have our own little (un)civil war going on up here.

Michigan's in a bad way as well. Apparently all the pretty girls have told them no thanks. You reap what you sew. That's why I think sooner or later, we're going to get a good candidate, because they know they can come here and if they merely deliver a few winning seasons, they'll look like Moses.

Sow is a big fat female pig. Think Mimi from Drew Carey. Sew is a needle pulling thread. La a note that follows sew....

I didn't asy Nutt got fired. I said he had options - and he took one. But, he knew eventually the AD was going to come down on him to get HIS man. The 'offer' came only after all the press put Arkansas in such a bad light. They (the AD) didn't want him until he saw other did. Go down to your church nursery tomorrow morning and watch the thre year olds. You'll see the same behavior over and over.

Who is the Special Teams coach at Arkansas State? I think that's the next guy on our radar now.

Call it whatever you want. Nutt "officially" quit, but he was not going to coach another year at Arkansas.

And, he was never going to come to SMU.

True. I like the idea of Ark taking Patterson from TCU, but only AFTER we have made a hire!

These are the facts on Arkansas and Nutt: He was told LAST October to "find another job". He would be fired if he didn't. This has been confirmed by the Trustees who have spoken out after that horrible charade of a press ocnference where Broyles and White lied their heads off and praised Nutt. Everyone in Arkansas now knows he did not quit. He was in effect, fired.
