"I think if you're going to be in this profession and doing anything ... a goal of mine is to try and win a national championship," Mr. Johnson told The Capital soon after yesterday's announcement. "I've had a zillion opportunities to leave here, but I didn't want to go somewhere where I didn't think you had a chance to play for championships. I think at this program (Georgia Tech) you do."

...the truth hurts. :(

They have just as good of a chance to win a national championship as SMU. He is kidding himself if he thinks he can win at GT....too many other schools in the region to compete with.

Hate to say it but he or anyone will NEVER, EVER get that opportunity to win that "mythical" national championship at SMU. Simply, we're not part of the cartel or will ever be. We are apart of the "subdivision" bowls that make up the leftovers as quoted by ESPN just last week.

I disagree. We'll get back in.

Nobody thought the SWC would ever break up either.

Georgia Tech won't win a national championship anytime soon. I'm sure that makes grandeur hungry GT fans salivate but it simply isn't reality.

Mr. Pony, I wish you were right but I'm sorry it'll never, ever happen outside of the cartel breaking up. Literally. Hopefully, someday, congress will get smart (now that is funny isn't it), or it'll go to the courts, or the NCAA got some b$%#$s all of a sudden & did what is right, or the college presidents actually did something both rationally & ethically. But for now, the rest of us are screwed & nothing is on the horizon.

Both the BCS-BS & the TV networks have controlled college football too many years now & no changes are in sight. Sorry but true.

Forget the National Title, if we go undefeated we are guarranteed a BCS Bowl game birth. I think that goal is very possible. If SMU was in the Sugar Bowl this year instead of Hawaii, I would have no complaints.

I mean really, going undefeated in C-USA, and beating Texas Tech /TCU to me doesn't seem like climbing mount everest.

Georgia Tech won the national championship in 1990, which is a hell of a lot more recent than our last national championship!
