Outside interest all but nonexistent

Even the media interest in this train wreck of a coaching search has dwindled to almost nothing. It has gotten so bad no body I know knows anything or even cares. Everyone is puzzled about what Orsini has done with this search. Interest level by candidates is one thing - not his fault- but the way he has handled the information exchange and his failure to strike while the iron was hot has really hurt his credibility.
I hate to say I told you so - but I did. Now I know there are still several who believe that Urban Meyer will be coming down from Orsini's attic any day now. All I can say is that you are special and you must have some sort of perverse desire to be constantly let down.

Funny that
http://coachingcarousel.blogspot.com/
prominently mentioned SMU, along with Arkansas, Michigan, Duke and UCLA. There seems to be plenty of interest, but not a lot of info is being leaked at the moment. Maybe Glen Mason and Chan Gailey really are a couple of the top candidates. Going after a sitting coach creates more buzz and media attention.

I talked to a reporter at ESPN last week who told me what she knew [old news at this point] but that the guys there were more focused on Michigan and UCLA. That should not be a surprise to anyone. SMU is not Michigan or UCLA. Bigger fish to fry for the media right now.
Besides, why would there be outside interest in who we hire when there is barely inside interest when we do have a coach? Only way to change that is to make a splash hire and/or win a friggin' game or three.

There are plenty of coaches interested in the SMU gig. The sky is not falling here any more than it is in Ann Arbor, Fayetteville, Inglewood or Durham. It's not signing day, and it's not time for spring ball yet. Steve-O aimed high, knowing full well that the PJ odds were long. Swung for the fences (in some folks' minds) and missed. Doesn't matter  Steve-O will get it done. Hopefully soon.
