My guess is that if Orsini hasn't even contacted these guys, then he's trying to hire an NFL OC or DC with NCAA HC experience, or a current D-1 coach going to a bowl game.

What the hell have Orsini, et al. been doing all this time (seven weeks of supposed 18+ hour days)?
-We know he contacted PJ (how hard/how many phone calls could that have been?, he was the Associate Athletics Director and Treasurer at the U.S. Naval Academy Athletic Association prior to his stints as AD at GT and UCF)
-We think he contacted Houston Nutt
-DMN reports that he contacted Troy Calhoun
Nobody has even inquired about the interest of Bowden, Bowen, or Neuheisel?!? Did we get embarrassed about going turned down by one prominent coach and two academy coaches so that now we are digging through lists of coordinators? Hell, if my job was on the line I'd want to know everyone who was interested (even if I wasn't at the time) so that I could develop lists, backup plans, strategies, etc. I'm starting to become very unimpressed with this search.

I believe there are still coaches with jobs in play.

Have we called Pete Carroll? Urban Meyer? Les Miles? Jim Tressel? Are we sitting on our hands?

Nothing is as angering in my life than SMU Football and all that is associated with it.

This isn't directed at you SMUFBBlog:
So we are going to patiently wait until they have time to talk with us? We could be interviewing, gauging interests and designing backup plans in the meantime.

I am shocked that Orsini hasn't at least talked to Bowden. I have lost all faith in Orsini. I can't beleive we are blowing a golden opportunity to get a first class coach (Bowden) THAT WANTS TO BE AT SMU! I'm sick to my stomach. What a nightmare.

Look, a lot of folks like Bowden. I get that. But he has been away from the game for 9 years. Watching games and commenting on them is not the same thing as coaching. When somebody has been gone that long, I really question the motivation for coming back. To me, I think he sees the $$$ being thrown around and he can't resist.
I, personally, question his drive once he takes the job. I can envision Bowden pulling a Rick Majerus one month into it.
I am not going to be upset if SMU hires him, but I am not screaming to the heavens because he is not being considered, either.

Resign now and save your sanity.

I don't think $$ is the issue. Did you read his own yahoo article about his decision to get back in? Have you heard him interviewed?
This guy writes, broadcasts/analyzes games, is a motivational speaker, and does tons of radio daily/weekly.
I've heard him speak - this guy is motivated and can motivate others.

re: "But he(Bowden) has been away from the game for 9 years"
[deleted] Vermeil:
Retired from coaching in 1982 from the Philadelphia Eagles
Came out of retirement to coach the St. Louis Rams in 1997
People probably said "
he's been out of coaching for over a decade"
[deleted] Vermeil won the Super Bowl in 2000!

And wept like a baby every week, but that is besides the point. Doesn't mean it will work every time.
