Chan Gailey's Contract

....as pointed out on a Georgia Tech board, Chan Gailey has a clause (Article I TERM) that says that Georgia Tech would pay a buyout equal to the remaining amount on his contract. If true and not modified by a buyout what incentive would Chan have to get back into Coaching. Reported buyout was 4.4 Million. I haven't studied it closely but the first and second page does include this language which I would think would override common law mitigation theories. Lawyers Conference

sorry brain freeze-he gets to keep that money regardless under my scenario-interesting though. Guess I'll have to find another reason why he shouldn't come here.

The reason he shouldn't come here is there are better coaches for the money.

Gailey is terrible. Why would we go through the embarassment of going balls out for a coach and loosing him to another school, and then go out and hire the coach fired to make that vacancy.

Also, here is a newsflash, Gailey looks for other jobs constently. He was always trying to upgrade from GT, you people dont think he would leave the hilltop in a minute? Get real, we can't go through this process again next year, we need someone to at least stick around long enough to build the program to where we are not trying to give this job to anyone that would take it.

"Gailey is terrible"

I am not a Chan2SMU fan, but he is not terrible.

Didn't he take GT to bowls every year he was there?
And didn't he take the Cowboys to the playoffs both years?

He is not in my top five list for SMU, the guy is light years
from a "WOW"..... but I think he would be a big upgrade from Bennett.

I bet Turner probably likes him.

That's why you pay FRAN $1.00 per year for 3 years, then up it in years 4,5... cheap for SMU, Aggies subsidize it, spend more for good assistants

And he will get an NFL job because he is a good coach period. He wouldn't have coached in the NFL if he was not a good coach. GT would not have hired him if he wasn't a good coach. He has held numerous position in the NFL. That would not happen if he was not a good coach. WE would be lucky to have him, but he aint coming and neither is the other coaches being mentioned on this board. Orsini is floating his resume about now.
