Man I forgot about Randy Ross-that makes me feel a tad better since he was the recruiting coordinator at Alabama

A very revealing statement by SO in this article, in my opinion:
An NCAA recruiting dead period begins Monday and stretches into the New Year. During the dead period, no face-to-face contact is allowed between school officials and prospective athletes, and phone calls are limited to once a week.
"As I've stated ... we have a process, we have a plan, and that plan has a sense of urgency to it," Orsini said. "Knowing there's going to be a dead period, there's a little less urgency because no one is able to recruit."
Prediction: SMU will not announce its new head coach until AFTER New Year's Day 2008.

Get ready for a long cold December...

Tidbits from Steve O:
1."As I've stated ... we have a process, we have a plan, and that plan has a sense of urgency to it," Orsini said. "Knowing there's going to be a dead period, there's a little less urgency because no one is able to recruit."
2."We're going to get the best coach available and then they're going to make the decision," Orsini said.
3.Orsini said Monday that he remained pleased with the search.
4.Orsini said the search is his highest priority. "I'm doing what I need to do," he said.
Translated:
1. "Get off my back..Damn! It'll get done when it gets done. Cut me some slack..I thought it was gonna be PJ"....Might we be waiting until after the first of the year based no this comment?
2. Well, I guess best coach available isn't Barnett, Neuheisel, Bower, Bowden or Mason. Damn, we're getting a friggin stud! Who's better than those guys? Not Jerry Gray. Not Mike Shula. Not Dom Capers. Not for what we need.
3. Translates as b.s.
4. "You wanna come work this search for me? Now quit calling..."

No coach 'til the dead period is over.

It's interesting that Bowden, Bower and Mason have not been contacted. Based upon Kragthorpe and PJ, SMU seems more interested in current coaches. Would O'Leary make a splash? He was rumored to go to Syracuse until they decided to stick with their current coach. What about Patterson?

We should have kept PB until February to recruit a class for this year and then given him the heave-ho!
