A coaching search worth writing about

If only we cheered for Houston. The Houston athletic director has no problem telling the Houston Chronicle who he has interviewed and how often. The Chronicle has no problem finding this out and talking to the candidates.

Interestingly, Jack Pardee says Ronnie Vinklarek would be his O-line coach.

I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Agree or disagree, the theory is the bad ADs are the ones who talk too much. The good ADs are the ones who keep their mouths shut.

Guess you should stick to reading the Chronicle. Good luck. Sorry you feel "left out" - I realize it's all about YOU.

Here is a new story in today's paper about our search. Evidently there are a couple of guys in the AD's office keeping in touch with our recruits. Not as good as having a coach talking to them though.

Berger, maybe you should read your own sig line...seems very appropriate at the moment with our search.

Let me assure you, this has nothing to do with ME. I have never expected nor asked for Steve Orsini to speak with me about the coaching search. Nor do I intend to. I have suggested SMU be more open in its search because full-scale panic is about to set in and those comments are on the blog, which you can read. If you don't like what you have read, you can ask me for a complete refund.

Perhaps Orsini doesn't give a damn about the 150 or so fans that SMU has left. (Who cares whether we have an interest in this team?) He might feel his job is to completely tear down the football program to nothing, including the fanbase, and then build it back. He probably figures the 150 or so lunatics left will probably be there anyway.

Thanks, Steve. You're swell! Image

At least we could start getting some QB sacks.

Blog I have to completely agree. Bergmeister is out of touch. SMU football is all about the alums, fans, and students. I am not saying that sensitive information needs to be disclosed, but a little acknowledgement would be nice.

What little acknowledgement are you talking about. What can Orsini tell us short of who he is currently negotiating with that would placate the great unwashed out here?

What Osborne said without divulging who he was talking to:

"I'm going to call and talk to about 4 or 5 people this weekend."

"We have interviewed a number of candidates over the weekend."

"We are not done conducting interveiws at this time."

"We expect to have a coach named some time next week."

These are the kind of communications you expect from someone who knows what they are doing. Don't let the cat out of the bag, but keep the fans at ease that things are moving forward by giving some specifics that cannot be used to identify the candidates.

And this would make the Pony Nation happy? Any of those remarks would just inspire more calls of "BS" at this point in time. The only remark I want to hear is "we have scheduled a press conference for this afternoon..."
