I think he had no choice but go on the air and give this dwindling fan base an idea as to what is going on. He's feeling the heat.
He may not say anything but he knows he's got a lot of pissed off people out there. Of course, Bergermeister (the old fart) isn't one of them.

If I'm Norm Hitzges, I ask why he lost out to Georgia Tech and Paul Johnson.
If I'm Norm Hitzges, I ask him about specific names to see what kind of a response I get. I'm sure Steve will speak in generalities because he needs to be pushed here.
