yes, you're right, but it certainly let our parents know our discomfort or displeasure with the time it was taking, so that at least they could read our message board and know that they had better push a little harder on the gas pedal, or else tell us they are going to stop the car and let us walk the rest of the way.

which i can tell you, at 10 years old, when you call their bluff and they stop on a long stretch of highway in Oklahoma and take off (only for a soda at the next town which they knew was close), that will put a quick end to your nagging.
