We have waited this long, no reason to make the hire now.

Think about this:

Announcing a coach this week: not likely at this point.
Next week(12/16-12/22): Possible, I suppose.
Week after (12/23-12/29): X-mas makes it very unlikely.
Week after (12/30-1/5): New year's makes it unlikely.

as if it matters...

obviously 20+ losing seasons is acceptable to you being that you're reading this so whats another few days or weeks if thats what it takes to get the right coach for the job.

Agreed. It's going to be a decision we have to live with for years to come, so those making the decision should take the time to make sure it is the right one.

We certainly hope it is the right one when all is said and done.

Make sure? How does one "make sure"? Identify 5 good candidates and hire one already. there is no perfect fit.

Looking beyond just the prospective coach's record. Talking to former associates, former players, and anyone else who can shed light on the coach's competency, ethics and other relevant factors. Basically, performing "due diligence".

We must be looking at someone who has baggage if that is the hold up.

well, at least despite all the pi$$ing and moaning (as expected & is reasonable), most everyone that voted is willing to endure the wait. hope its worth it...

I know how Feb. 6 is trumped up but Football signing period runs from Feb. 6, 2008 to April 1, 2008. Yes, the recruits we eventually get will be leftovers but sometimes weird things happen.

This is just a friendly reminder that the football signing period is not 1 day.
