Since the board is pretty quiet, are Mondays and Tuesdays the most used days for press conferences? I know that can depend on various factors. Seems it would give anyone flying in the weekend to get here, alums in place, etc. I'm not saying we make an announcement this weekend and have a PC first part of next week. Just wondered if there is a trend.
Don't think there are many late Friday afternoon PCs to name a coach.
Better question, what gives us the most air play in DFW and beyond?

the best time for a PC if it's something bad that you don't want to get around is Friday afternoon

the best time for a PC to announce SMU's new head coach is yesterday

Most students will have scattered by the end of the day Friday. IF a coach is hired before January 14, 2008 I guess that Orsini e-mails the players with the announcement prior to stepping on to the platform for the press conference(?) The majority of players are somewhat local - guess that doesn't matter, the new coach probably would not meet with any group less than the whole team.

Exactly--Nebraska announced at 4 pm on a Sunday.
If we had a coach hired, it would already be announced. The dead period starts on Monday. Even if we hired someone today, we would want them to be able to call as many recruits as possible before that.

I am not the first to say it and I wont be the last, but this hire better be good. Not just that, very unique and worth waiting for. Can't imagine who that is, but we appear to be passing on alot of qualified candidates and a recruiting year in the process. good thing we didn't need any jucos. We are in trouble for next year and that means a short honeymoon for whatever genius we hire.

I guess my point to all of this is that we have absolutely EXHAUSTED THE DISCUSSION on a new head coach. I say the Webmaster gurus set up a forum titled 'Secret Coach,' we keep that thread going and that the football thread be shut down until there is an actual announcement or leak leading to one. Covering the same thing for the 649th time became old 35 days ago.
Since the PJ-to-GaTech momentum dissolved, this board has basically died. Let's hibernate until we have some meat to chew on.
