Joe Ethridge - Cotton Bowl Championship Team 1949

Joe Ethridge passed away this past weekend. He played in SMU's first Cotton Bowl Championship game as the 10th ranked Mustangs defeated the 9th ranked Oregon Ducks 21-13 on January 1, 1949. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. After a 1 year stint with the Packers, he returned to Texas and had a successful career teaching and coaching in the high school ranks. He was a "regular" at the annual Lettermen's Bar-B-Que (turned pastafest) at the start of each football season.
