Two more BCS schools must be served before the line of dominoes falls to SMU. The BIG boys keep robbing each other in this game of musical coaches. After the pigs had fed at the trough, the ponies will get the scraps. Oink, Soooie.

And even though it may be scraps, it will be the best damn meal we have had in a long long time.

Despite our desire to hire a winning HC from some other program, have you noticed that some of the BCS teams are accepting OC and DC coaches for their openings? We have waited so long now that maybe our aspirations will have to be adjusted to the realities of who is avaiable that the SMU administration will accept. I will be happy to get the job filled with somone who can give us hope for the future regardless of their background.

in all honesty, though I am not thrilled with Larry Coker, just look at the names we are throwing around here (at 1-11 SMU, remember!!):
Barnett
Neuheisel (getting a 2nd interview at UCLA)
June Jones (coaching a BCS bowl game)
Gailey (former Cowboys and GT coach)
Bowden (interviewed for GT, possible top candidate at WVU)
Coker (won a NC)
Fran (Tcu, bama, a&m)
PJ (yes, we lost him to GT, an ACC school w/ a rich history)
While I am not happy with the length and secrecy of this search, i have to say that the names that have surfaced are a HUGE step up for us. In that regard, we have to give credit to Orsini for getting the $ to even think about these names.

Throwing around names on a message board?? That doesn't count for jack. Let's throw around Paterno, Spurrier, and Bobby Bowden too. The fact is we can't land any of them either!

let me clarify, names that have either interviewed with us or expressed interest in SMU are a huge step up..

Okay, but if Orsini and Turner don't want to consider them, what good is interest expressed?

very true, which really puzzles me about Coker. if he is our man, we could have inked him 7 weeks ago!! possibly we have offered Neuheisel, and he is waiting to see if he gets the UCLA job?? that seems plausable.

Maybe he wasn't our man 7 weeks ago, and now he is....thats what happens when choices 1 and 2 don't work out...
Why is this so puzzling?

its puzzling (to me) b/c if we were going to go the Coker route, we could have gone with Barnett or anyone else that has expressed interest weeks ago. Or at least after PJ didn't work out. I understand having to go down the list after your 1st choices don't work, but why the delay now? for coker??

There is the possibility, I suppose, that we have someone we are having to wait on who's been offered, but has other offers he is pursuing and that accepting our offer is contingent upon his not getting a more desirable position else where...therefore, Orsini is interviewing backups for the possibility that his current number one choice doesn't come through for him.

that is the most likely scenario I have seen posted thus far.
