Rodriguez playing hardball with WVU
Posted on December 18th, 2007 by Joe

West Virginia officials have to be reeling this morning over the reaction by their own alumni to Rodriguez bolting to Michigan. Bob Reynolds, the former chief operating officer at Fidelity Investments (and one of the straightest shooters you could ever meet) was quoted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this morning, WVU officials blamed for coach leaving, saying:

“I tell you what, I’ve never seen anything mishandled as much as this was,â€

If they keep making poor decisions they will end up like SMU with nobody in the stands on game day.

Losing the coach and all that money could be the death knell of West Virginia football. I think Oscar needs to be sent in to investigate.

You think things are bad at WVU there's this one school who is already paying half a million to a bball coach no longer there, has a broke athletic department, and fired its coach about two months ago so that it could make a 'splash' hire and get someone to turnaround its program. The school has a warchest of 100% donated funds (since there's no money in the operating account to pay their splash hire), had a jump on every other school in america as far as finding a coach, and still hasn't hired anyone. Two schools in its same state and three schools in its conference already lost, sought, and hired new coaches all while this school's search pressed onward...

I've read the term "death knell" twice on the board today. Strange.

One quibble: SMU isn't "paying half a million to a bball coach no longer there." Tubbs wasn't paid that much and his contract only went through the 2006-07 season.

I never worry until the 4th "debacle" in a 24 hour period. That happened 11 times on Saturday/Sunday time periods during the FB season.

Really? I thought the payout was over 600,000, and he had a 4 year contract. Coached 2 years, gone now for 1 1/2. So we would still be paying it.

Quibble, Debacle, and Death Knell now all in the same thread. Surely someone can't write one sentence incorporating each properly?

its just a huge debacle when people throw out quibbles about our next coach, making it one big death knell...

is that good?
