In the Big Finish on PTI tonight, Dan Leboutard was asked by Michael Wilbon about Coker interviewing at SMU. He responded "How many ex-national champion head coaches are out there interviewing for the SMU job? None"

Name the last time SMU got national publicity on par with this? My guess would be when the Mustangs defeated the Froggies the week after the OU game in Norman.

and just think what it will be like when we actually hire one of these guys. they don't give it too much credence now, but i can see the exposure increasing with a flashy hire.

i don't know, a link on the website or actual airtime. this is bigger, and with better reason.

So, that should tell you something about Coker. Why is a national champ interested in coaching here. Beware.

Brilliant logic.
Shouldn't we then wonder why any coach would be interested in this job? Wouldn't any coach looking here be someone we should be wary of? And then, based on all these people who must be flawed because they are interested, we should probably pick the best of the flawed, right? So, if he's the only one w/a national championship, maybe that is a good thing. Ahh, there it is. Unless, that is, since any coach willing to come here is suspect, we should just stay coachless? That's why Steve-O's the genius! He figured it out weeks ago.

Larry Coker won a national title 6 years ago and the only school that has interviewed him since he was fired (aside from us) is Rice. That should tell you everything you need to know about Coker. If not, read is season by season bio below. We need a guy like Mason or Barnett who have built something from nothing

i just dont like wikipedia so much after i read about why we were called the mustangs. some funny guy edited it to say the first president and his gay lover called out football team a bunch of pansies who looked like a homoerotic group of mustangs.
