Who have we missed out on....to name a few:

- Terry Bowden

- Paul Johnson

- Houston Nutt

...And it's not so much that we missed out as we are screwing ourselves in recruiting everday we don't have a coach. (and yes I understand the dead period)

Lets see here...

Paul Johnson...wasn't coming here.

Houston Nutt...wasn't coming here.

Terry Bowden...still available after not coaching for 10 years. Hmmmmm

Let's see here:

Paul Johnson & Houston Nutt:

-If we wanted them, we could have offered them $2,000,000 a year the day after we fired Bennett and 3 weeks before other teams fired their coaches. Especially, for Johnson, this would have been very hard to turn down considering he had not yet beat Notre Dame, as well as he would have had no options to weigh but one.

Nutt too, would have not yet beat LSU and $2,000,000 would have looked pretty good. I think we waited around with our thumbs up our [deleted] and look what happened. You snooze you lose.

As Far as Terry Bowden - Now that West Virginia (a.k.a. his Dream Job) has opened up it's safe to say he is not coming to the hilltop. ANd if you don't think he would be a coach, I can't help you.

After seven weeks of searching for a coach and 19 seasons of wandering in the proverbial desert, I think it's time for a prayer vigil. Everyone meet at noon at Perkins Chapel tomorrow and we are non-stop praying until a new coach is announced. Bring your rosaries, bibles, playbooks, whatever. Doesn't matter if you're Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, etc.; we need help from as many Gods as possible. It's time for some Divine intervention from that great Coach in the sky.

The day after we fired PB, we didn't have $2,000,000 to offer anyone, and the only place Paul Johnson was going to leave Navy for was someplace he could have a chance to play for a National Championship, i.e., a BCS school. He said so himself.

Houston Nutt was not coming to SMU for any amount of money...period.

I will be so brave as to venture that Terry will not wind up at West Virginia. He has a much better chance at winding up at a mid-major like SMU...though not necessarily SMU.

Can we sacrifice something? The TCU frog, perhaps? A Cal bear for good measure?

A sacrifice must be of value - something we dread to part with. I fear that it must be, dare I say it, THE PURPLE HIPPO.

Can we sacrifice the frog just for fun?

You do not offer a sitting coach another position. Any good coach would not talk to another team in the middle of the regular season. No school would allow us to talk to another coach during the middle of the regular season. You should be embarrassed that you just made that argument.

Better question is: Who are we "interested in" that we could not have hired last week (Assuming there is interest from a particular candidate)? And don't look like an idiot and suggest some currently active NFL head coach leading his team to the playoffs, cuz that ain't happening.
