ESPN reports that Slick Rick interviewed with the Chancellor on his second interview. I'm hoping Norm Chow makes a late surge and overtakes the lead for the coaching position there, but it ain't gonna happen. Looks like Neuheisel is bound for his alma mater. I predict a press conference by the end of the week. When that happens I will officially begin petitioning Steve O for my second choice, Fran the Man.

The other Kool Aid take would be that UCLA was giving an alum the token second interview so that when they give the job to someone else, they can say, hey, we interviewed him twice, and the other candidate was better.

They could also drag their search out another two months like others have done and say that they hired the best available coach at the time.
I am still pulling for them to partake of Chow.

Regardless of how this search plays out at least we are interviewing and trying to get some of the same coaches as the BCS schools. When was the last time that happened at SMU?

Never. BCS only around for ten years. And hopefully it will go away within 10 more.

Chow is out of the running at UCLA and there are rumors that he actually might join Neuhisel on staff at UCLA as the OC. He is supposedly very unhappy in the NFL.
All indications are that Slick Rick will get the UCLA job. I think if they get him and we get Fran it would be great for us. Fran has built up a mid-major and won at a mid-major, Rick has never built anything and has torn down programs at Washington and CU. UCLA did not want to hire him but they had little choice when there first few choices turned them down. They have not hired a coach with head coaching experience since they hired [deleted] Vermill.....so there was little chance they would go with somebody who had not been a head coach before

Dwayne Walker will be reatined by Neuhisel or Chow. That was the reason the June Jones conversation went nowhere because he wanted to bring in his own staff.

Rick would be great also.....we need someone who knows how to stretch the recruiting field a bit more - if you know what I mean.
