Bowden does not get the WVU job, does Orsini lay down the red carpet for him?
Assuming Orsini has contacted Bowden, is it possible that he told Orsini that he wanted to weigh all of his options before deciding. And the only reason Orsini has yet to hire Fran is because Bowden is his number 1 right now?

expony!
From day one Bowden has never been considered as a candidate. His name with relation to SMU is all internet speculation and rumors. Forget about Bowden, he's not coming here.

I understand what your saying. This is what I have been told consistently from a couple of sources. One, my friend who is on the search committe that I talk to often has said from the first week after Bennett's firing that Bowden has never been considered. When I asked him again recently he said the same thing. I was told Bowden has been out of coaching to long. End of story. Apparently we're not the only one's who think so there's a lot of head coaching jobs been filled this year. Personally I think the only way he get's back into coaching is as an assistant or Div I AA head coach.

His ego could not handle either of these I'm afraid.

well then who was considered? and which of those considerations are still available?
if this was draft day and SMU was on the clock, Mel Kiper would have Bowden as the number 1 coach on the board

If this was draft day the clock would have run out.

If SMU were in the NFL draft we would be following the Vikings example, selecting the number 7 pick after the number 8 pick had been selected and still having to pay 7 slot money for an inferior talent.

I think Bowden and Neuheisel are both still high on his list. They wanted to see what else came open.

I agree.
SO must go along with the theory that sloppy 2nds are ok.
After UCLA & WV get their coaches, SMU will hire someone, I think.

Those might be WOW names, but I don't get the sense Bowden was ever on the list at all.
