We are about 10 days from 2008. Do you declare FAILURE?

if we make it to 2008 without hiring a coach, DO YOU DECLARE FAILURE?
this is getting out of hand. not sure how we could be waiting for a coach this getting ready to close out a season. thats not normally the protocol in today's game.
further, if we had a guy in line already then why would we interview fran and coker.
i think its between those two....at this point i declare FAILURE!

No. I don't. I'll declare something a failure when it's actually failed. Right now, it hasn't finished yet. We'll have a new coach soon. That might mean February, but if it means we get a good coach who takes us in the right direction, who cares?

Better question: if you declare this a failure now, what do you do? Do you fire Orsini? Do you not hire a new coach? Do you just close up shop and go home?

are you serious about February? that would make headline news at ESPN - we would be a national joke...

of course you cant fire Orsini but you do put a mark on the "bad side of his report card".... he mismanaged fan expectations by irresponsibly using superlatives to say we want to hire the Best Coach in America....public perception is part of his job...

We will not know if this is a failure for a few years. And I don't mean the coaching search will take that long! I mean that we must judge how the results play out on the field.

Agreed. That's why I pointed out yesterday that the perception is we don't have our act together and it has negatively effected any hope for recruiting in the immediate future down here and in South Texas.
Again, the teams we will play in conference are beating us with help from some players from down here (Dillard at Rice, Demps at UTEP, etc.) and our rivals have good contacts with the high school coaches and players that we do not. Tulsa already wrapped up Reagan's Marcus Wright, is talking to the 2 kids at Madison about de-committing from Arkansas, and UTEP and Houston are looking at Smithson Valley kids.
We have no presence in these schools and the coaching delay does not help.

Yes, the longer the delay now, the worse the short terms results get. No recruiting class this year will certainly affect the team for years to come.

Give me a break. The question is silly. "We are who we thought we were." Dennis Green

Exactly right. The coaching search may in fact be going very well. We don't know. IF Orsini's going to deliver something special, it's going to be worth it. If not, it's been a colossal failure. None of us can make that call right now.

players win games....how can you say recruiting will not have an effect?
hell if thats the case why not name an interim coach and lets wait a full year to see if anyone else is interested.
at this point this is failure unless Orsini makes a suprise hire! as an alum, then i do reserve the right to change my mind.

"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." -Donald Rumsfeld
The coaching search for us is an unknown unknown...and a known unknown, I know.
