Would we have a shot at this guy? He is currently only making $800,000. He is a star. My only concern would be that he would only be at SMU for a few years before going bigger. Doubt we could get him anyway.

That would be an amazing hire. Everyone would definitely forget the wait if Peterson is announced after the Hawaii Bowl on Sunday.

I think we'd all be stunned.
And ecstatic.

He will probably just stay at Boise, kick butt again next year, take a big time job after next season.

I'm sorry and I really don't mean to knock loco because I know he made his comment in good faith, but I am really amazed when I read somebody post about how they are concerned some coach might move on after a short period. Why would they not move on. I love SMU, but let's swallow a dose of reality here. SMU is not the ultimate job. No one is ever going to win a national championship at SMU. It is impossible for a coach to reach the top of their profession here. Someone is only going to take this job for 2 reasons: 1) the money and 2) to position themselves for a better job.
The best we can hope for is a mutually satisfying result. For the at-some-point-to-be-named-hopefully-before-the-swallows-return-to-Capistrano coach to be able to move on to greener pastures, it means he will have been successful here. And we should be accepting of that reality because it means we will have achieved at least a modicum of success. It should make hiring the next coach easier, not to mention being able to attract one of a higher caliber. So get real. We're not Penn State looking to hire Joe Paterno or Florida State seeking our Bobby Bowden. We're hiring a soldier of fortune and the best we can hope for is that he does well enough to warrant a better job and that he doesn't leave the cupboard bare when he takes off. It's the nature of the profession.
There. I feel better now. Think I'll go make myself another drink. And I, too, would be thrilled with Peterson.

Yes, Peterson would be an amazing hire, but he'd be crazy to come here.
He would be better off sitting at Boise for another year or two because their program is doing great and his star is well on the rise (if not already at its peak). I think he would only be putting his "step up" position at risk if he came here.

This would be an outstanding hire.
In addition to the money lets committ to him that we will paint the field BLUE for him.

Peterson would be awesome. For three years or ten years. At this point, I would still consider Dirk Koetter who built Boise State in the first place.

Whomever we get, I hope that when they leave it is because they get a "bigger" job rather than the fact we had to fire them because they won one game!

He wouldn't even return UCLA's telephone calls. Doubt that he's waiting for a call from Orsini.
