A source close to the SMU situation tells me Hawaii coach June Jones is the main target. He already has had a clandestine interview for the job.
SMU has yet to make a move on former Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione and ex-Southern Miss coach Jeff Bowers, among others, even though both have been available. Why? Because SMU is waiting on Jones to finish the Warriors' trip to the Sugar Bowl, where unbeaten Hawaii will play Georgia.
It is believed that Paul Johnson was the main target, but he ended up leaving Navy to take the Georgia Tech job.

For what it's worth, Deinhart is usually a rock-solid reporter.

But according to biggin "Steve Orsini is an even bigger [deleted] than I originally thought!" if we are waiting for June Jones. And yes, this writer is usually money. At this point I'm rooting for June Jones if for no other reason that to prove the two biggest [deleted] on this board wrong.

I think that is a little unfair to douchbags. I think colostomy bags is more appropriate.

I wonder when/where this "clandestine interview" took place????
Could that have been the reason JJ didn't accompany Colt to the Heisman Ceremony?? A long shot I know, but hmmmmmmmmmmm....

There had been some message board rumors that he wasn't attending to interview with Houston

That's what I've been hoping since it was announced he didn't go to NYCity. Even if that was the case, that he wanted to meet with Orsini, it still seemed surprising that he wouldn't go to the media capital of the world to tout his guy for the biggest individual award in the sport.
If it gets him to SMU, of course, I don't care at all!

Thought it was reported he stayed back to allow his quarterback to take some others with him to the ceremony and he had a book signing gig on the islands, so I don't think he was stateside that weekend.

The "clandestine interview" took place by cover of night and under KGB protection at Bob’s Steakhouse. The report has been confirmed to me by a man I trust who only goes by his code name - (The French Teacher).

Fact is, JJ I'm sure feels he is worth alot more to a team than $800K/year since he has gone 12-0 and to a BCS Bowl game.....So it will be interesting to see how much of a raise he gets with a new contract from Hawaii....If they don't at least double his salary, JJ might just get pissed and bolt. With SMU offering 2 Mill. + a year, he might consider.....Don't put any stock in the fact JJ said he is not interested in the SMU job. Of couirse he would say that going to the BCS Sugar Bowl this week......Nick Saban said he was not interested in Alabama last year also before he took the job...........One thing about June Jones, he would not be afraid to come to SMU for all the reasons. Coach Jones does not lack self confidence in his coaching abilities.

That was my thought exactly when I read that story. I found his wording a bit curious too: "I have not heard from them, I'm not gonna hear from them" Now how does he know he's not going to hear from them?
As much as I hate parsing words from coaches and seeing coaches do things like Nick Saban, you have to take it into account when they talk to the media these days.
