Taking a break from vacation to read this June Jones stuff. Don't know if this has been posted on here yet.
Dallas Morning News, November 13, 2003; June Jones on Phil Bennett:
"I think Phil is on an island sometimes," Jones said. "He's going through some unfair requirements over there. He's not on the same playing field as the rest of us."

Please don't give that egomaniac credit for that. It will just feed the fire.

Send that quote to Orsini's office.

This June Jones hubbub seems to be a very big misunderstanding. SMU is not interested in hiring June for a coach. They simply have targeted June as the time for hiring a new coach.

June Jones or not, could any of the blame for this long drawn out process be contributed to attempts to level the playing field for SMU athletics? Have there been any meetings of the Board, faculty, etc. that might be discussing this? I am sure Steve-O knows all of the inherent barriers preventing us from truly competing. I am sure I am grasping at air...but I am hopeful there is great good that comes out of our 3-4 month coaching search.

If I were a coach looking at this job I would definitely want to know the exact limitations I was going to deal with when it came to recruiting. A coach will never have more leverage than now. Once hired it's well that's what you signed up for ol buddy ol pal.

The fact of the matter is things are no better today for SMU and June Jones knows this. He will not come here. Get on with it and make a hire Orsini.

heres how i look at it. This info about our interest in JJ is being leaked from somewhere. Orsini or someone in the department let this one out. Surely after getting burned by Johnson, Orsini doesn't want to get publicly turned down again. One time and I can somewhat buy that the media attention was ok, or at least not too negative, but a second time 4 weeks later and you really have to wonder at that point.
Either Orsini thinks Jones is coming or we have been publicly dismissed again. And anybody who thinks this media attention and speculation is good, I beg to differ. The only thing being said about us nationally is we are graveyard and why would Coach XYZ want to go to SMU. This period of a limbo and speculation only cements our reputation as a coaching graveyard.

It is a real shame Hoop Fan. SMU football is burning to the ground and Orsini is Nero fiddling.

Hey Biggin, cut out the Italian jokes. That is definitely not PC. Nero was Italian and so is Orsini. We could have Terry Bowden diddling right now!
