NCAA Recruiting Calendar(see link at bottom)

....this should come in handy during discussions in the next few weeks or months. Hit on the Color Calendar also at the bottom of the link for more info. 21 full contact shopping days left. We are already handicapping ourselves during Dead Periods and Quiet Periods before that though. Essentially two weekend visit periods left plus the traditional walkon/leftover weekend when we'll likely have most recruits visit since the good recruits are going to be lined up with prior commited visits on the other 2 weekends

Definitions that should help:

For those who don't know what a dead period means, here is the official definition from the NCAA:

"[It is] not permissible [for coaches] to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on- or off-campus or permit official or unofficial visits."

Coaches can stay in contact with recruits by phone - they are allowed to phone each recruit once per week - but that is about it. This dead period lasts through Jan. 3, with another taking place from Jan. 7-10. The next dead period comes around the time of National Signing Day, with the time in between being the true final stretch of 2008 class recruiting.

NCAA BYLAW 13.02.4.3 - QUIET PERIODA quiet period is that period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution's campus. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations may be made during the quiet period.___________________________________________________________It is important to remember that during a quiet period you may not have off-campus contact with a prospect or the prospect's family. This is especially relevant when you are on the road competing at another institution where a prospect we are recruiting might be visiting. During a quiet period, if you are at an away-from-home contest, please do not approach a prospect or have contact with a prospect. Such contact would constitute a violation and will result in our having to declare the prospect ineligible at our institution. If the prospect approaches you, please explain the regulations and immediately leave the area. Do not get caught up in any extended conversations. Also, our own student-athletes are not permitted to have any off-campus contact with prospects [13.02.5.1.(a & d)]. The exception for student-athletes is during official visits [13.02.5.1.(e)]. This becomes important when a student-athlete might have previously hosted a prospect on our campus and then subsequently sees the prospect visiting another institution during a competition. Our student-athletes should not approach the prospect. If the prospect approaches our student-athletes, they should explain the regulations to the prospect and leave the area immediately. Please help us to make sure that your student-athletes are aware of this restriction and we will be sure to include an educational piece to our student-athletes regarding this matter.

How many three, four and five star recruits does SMU have? I bet it is a lot. I hope we can get some recruits to change from Texas, OU, and A&M.....cross your fingers.

The real question: is there a MINIMUM amount of recruits you can sign in a year? If so, SMU is going to break the record!!!! Pony Up!!!!

I guess where I'm going with this is let's say we sign only 15 guys this year... we still have a max next year of something like 25 and 90 total scholarships, right?
