I have been informed that SMU will interview Jon Tenuta for a second time after the GT bowl game. Tenuta is the Defensive Coordinator and now interim HC for GT after Gailey was fired. He also served as DC for SMU in the 90s.

He is supposedly THE reason the search is now at a standstill. Apparently the Gailey firing has contributed to the delay in the process. Orsini and Tenuta supposedly mutually agreed to wait until after the bowl game to interview since Orsini was not willing to commit to hiring Tenuta yet and Tenuta wanted the interim HC role for the bowl game and no distractions.

Whether he's the right guy or wrong guy I suppose it makes sense. Definitely don't think he's the WOW but he could be a good coach. Then again - he has not been hired yet. Just remember who you heard it from first - your SUPREME LEADER.

Could have sworn I heard this, on this board, from someone else a day or two ago, but then again every "revelation" right or wrong that biggin has announced has been after the fact, or speculation, was already mentioned elsewhere. I am not saying anything that biggin has ever said is wrong, however, rather than Supreme Leader I would announce you as the "John Edwards Speaks to the Dead" of college football predictions.

yeah but mrydel somebody has worked every angle of this Coaching search in one way or another. If this is confirmed then Biggin had to pull this "surprising" revelation from someone. Let's see. He would fit in perfectly with SMU's former failed Coaching searches since 1989.

I have heard nothing but great things about him.

Would I rather see Barnett, Gill, Bowden or Fran? Yes.
However, if this is the man lets hire him & let him get after it re: recruiting.

SO made a great hire in Doh & I expect the same here when everything shakes out in the next couple of days.

My kingdom for you to disassociate yourself from SMU football like you did with SMU basketball.

When that day comes, it will definitely be addition by subtraction.

If it is Tenuta then SMU refuses to look at candidates that have the qualities to be successful at SMU and that fit the needs of the university. Great Defensive Coordinator though just like the last Great Defensive Coordinator SMU hired. To me that's not necessarily bad but what is a failure is that he is not the right fit for the job. A huge disappointment if he gets the job and a recognition that SMU couldn't pay a top candidate enough to take this job. ADVICE: next time SMU starts a job search better have the Model polished up BEFORE talking to Coaches.

The point I was making is that papawasamustang said he heard about Tenuta on the radio Friday. (See thread titled John Tenuta below.) That hardly makes biggin's announceemnt a "scoop". He merely repeats info that is old that he classifies as being inside info privy only to the "Supreme Leader". And predicting that SMU will have trouble hiring a big name coach is not a real stretch.

At least you back up all of your claims and even your opinions with facts and sources. Biggin just repeats info and takes credit for it. That is why I respect and even admire your opinion but can not respect his.

Would he be a better coach than Charlie Waters? Waters is still available.

True but sometimes the best leads aren't the original scoops. I didn't really read those previous posts as definitive as Biggin'. We shall see. It would confirm the general thesis that SMU can't bribe a quality recognized Coach 10 Million Dollars -well above market rate- to take this job.

I can't imagine a more similar comparison. Two Coaches that are lifetime, journeymen Defensive Coordinators(Tenuta a Defensive Coordinator at 7 schools, Bennett a Defensive Coordinator at 6 schools). Neither one has head coaching skills-both were turned down on countless job searches until SMU hired Bennett (and now Tenuta?). A really sad conclusion to a promising Coaching search.

Way to jump to a conclusion, Stallion. Very lawyer like.

Why don't you just try to hold your water until the announcement is made?

Better yet, why don't you bet me that it will be Tenuta?

Speculation that Tenuta is in the mix is nothing new. The logic for a delay in announcing a hiring could also apply to others - like June Jones.

I don't see Tunuta as a bad hire, just not a "wow" hire. The fact that he's never been a head coach makes me think he's not really on Orsini's list.

Not only not "wow", he doesn't fit the criteria of one with former HC experience.

It's not Tenuta.

I'd rather have Fran and his #12 recruiting class.
