All I want is for SMU to return to our winning ways, He will also do it within the rules. He will build a legal program we can all be proud of. Lets get er dun !!!!!

Right. Let's get back to the things on this board that are not a waste of time.

In the few minutes I can get to look at ponyfans, I mean the few minutes every 15 minutes or so, I either want to see we hired a coach, or more of jtstangs coach pictures.

Ok here's a stat. Coach Franchione has finished First (including ties) in his Conference and or Division 10 times in his career at 5 different schools including Division 1A schools New Mexico, TCU(twice) and Alabama(ineligible). Not bad. His school's have gone to bowls in 8 out of the last 10 years not including Alabama when they were ineligible due to probation but finished first. So 9 out of 11 years he has coached a team worthy of a bowl game. Franchione has 3 Top 25 finishes at TCU, TCU and Alabama. In 20 out of 25 years he has posted a winning record(relevant to SMU which has 1 winning record in 18 years) There is something to be said for his history of success at numerous stops.

Would you care to speculate on the amount of Turner's involvement in the length of this coaching search?

Just for comparison, June Jones has two championships in his first and most recent year at Hawaii in 9 total years-went to a bowl 6 out of 9 years. This should be Hawaii's first Top 25 finish (post-season final) even with a loss. Jones has 7 winning seasons out of 9 years. (not including his pro Coaching career where he had 1 Wild Card Playoff appearance in 1 winning season in 4 years)

....Fran just keeps pulling away from JJ. JJ has had a nice run at UH, but everywhere else he is Rossley. Let's get Fran in here tonight so he can hit some living rooms Tuesday afternoon....

WTF? Which orifice do you pull this comparison to Rossley out of??? He was an interim HC at San Diego which means he got hired to replace someone who couldn't win with the existing talent (Kevin Gilbride). In Atlanta, he had one playoff run in his three years there, he lost in the other two seasons. Those were his first head coaching jobs following many years coaching. Hawaii is his first head coaching job. Notwithstanding the ability to get a bunch of talented Polynesians into the school who are academic risks, recruiting isn't easy at Hawaii. Lots of people don't like to live there, traveling is tough, facilities are substandard and Honolulu is pretty shady. June Jones isn't Knute Rockne but we'd be VERY LUCKY to get him. Hawaii is playing in a BCS game. Let that sink in before you gripe any more about Jones.

Great points.
I think Fran is a better match for the job at SMU.

I will take either. But it is not my or your decision. Steve O will make the call based on his evaluation as to what is best for SMU (assuming both are available). That is what he was hired to do. It is not a democracy. Even if you do not like how this works out, I hope all of you give the new coach a chance.
