OK. I'll make this prediction. If we really are offering 1.7 then he's going to be the next head coach at SMU. Can Hawaii really get close to that?
Back off Warchild seriously.

Isn't he making something like $800,000 now?

Do you really want June Jones? Do you really want to get blown out on NATIONAL TV in a BCS bowl and have the announcers tell America how we never really belonged there in the first place? Do you want to hear a crow of 80,000 screaming "over-rated" in the Sugar Bowl?
Me too.

it was also said that UH is hoping to retain him...seems like its all JJs decision to stay or go

Guess it depends what they do with the 4.5 million dollars they earned by going to the Sugar Bowl.......but I know they are already fighting with the administration about how to spend that money.
It seems like June would want to leave a school like that where he had to always fight for support from the administration all the time and come to SMU where the admin fully supports athletics.....right?

majority of that cash will go to facilities...the school wont use any of it to go to a raise...thats why they have donors.

yes, so he'd basically be getting a x2 pay raise...he would have made more this year but gave a lot of cash to his assistants because he felt they were so underpaid

Didn't we already get blown out on NATIONAL TV this year? Maybe that was a different team I was watching from New York in September. Seems like we had quite a few NATIONAL TV games this year where the announcers blasted us the entire game.
I would rather get blown out in a BCS bowl game any day of the week and twice on Sunday than lose all but one game in a season. I would rather get blown out of the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl than what we currently have. ANY BOWL GAME IS FINE WITH ME! SMU does not belong in a BCS bowl. Not now. Not for a very long time. Maybe not ever. Why wouldn't you be excited if we just made it to one?
You have very lofty expectations for a team which is amongst the worst in college football. Oh wait, June Jones took one of those teams and took them to a BCS bowl, but you're right. We just don't want that. Better look elsewhere.

You also have to factor in the higher cost of living in Hawaii. I don't know if they have a state income tax.

Having spent quite a bit of time over there in the islands, the fight over that 4.5MM will be a dandy. Everybody will be lining up to get a piece of that money including the native islanders who will claim that the stadium sits on sacred lands and therefore, they should get some of the cash..............

Does anyone think he'd be willing to give Hawaii a bit of a home team discount or do you get the feeling he's just fed up with the administration over there to the point that he's just ready to get out?
