Hope for the best but prepare for the worst

Postby StallionsModelT » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:58 am

This is going to be my mentality as we come down the home stretch of the longest coaching search in college football history. Quietly, I will hope that we nab our big fish (June Jones) and this entire charade has been validated with a top notch coach who will re-energize the program and restore SMU to prominence. However, I am prepared for the worst. I'm prepared for June Jones to continue to slow play SMU as leverage for more money from Hawaii and in doing so, drag this thing out another five to seven days. After the announcement of a new contract with Hawaii, Orsini and SMU again look like the red headed stepchild of college football that can't catch a break. We begrudgingly make a phone call to Fran and the press conference is held Jan. 9th when the same press conference could have been held in late November. This is the approach I recommend the rest of you take. Stay cautiously optomistic, but realize the odds are really stacked against us.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Many may disagree, however I do believe that SO has done the most that can be expected from any AD. He has raised $ and went after the best in a quiet, calm, discrete manner. Even if SMU settles for Fran or Coker, I honestly think he gave it his best shot. He took chances and will bring back SMU.

Phxfan,

I agree with you dude. Orsini has done as well as could be expected given the circumstances. SMU might be the toughest place to be AD in the nation and this coaching search has gone a long way to leading me to believe that to be a fact.
