June Jones "Rumor"..Upgrade

Postby FordtoTolbert » Wed Jan 02, 2008 6:24 pm

from Phil OR most important hire in the last 25+ years? Sounds like we have REALLY lowered the bar from "this needs to be the best hire in history, this is the the most vital hire in Orsini's career" to ""anything / anybody we hire is an upgrade from Phil..."
.
June's boys looked very "SMU like" last evening, they definately did not belong in that game. QB just dropped a couple rounds in the draft, as well....big time "weakness exposure" last night for the UH squad.

I still say it needs to be Fran. We need to get over the a$m / tcu vibe we have issues with...the guy wins...the guy upgrades..the guy puts smiles on faces....let him turn this thing....Long Live Gary Hammond.

You are forgetting something. Hawaii looked that way in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. We look that way in the toliet bowl every Saturday in the fall.

Pffft.

Sign me up for a 12-0 season, followed by getting blown out in the Sugar Bowl, followed by our QB dropping a couple of rounds in the draft.

I will be happy with either Fran or June, but those are ridiculous reasons not to hire June.

OK...but, this shows that fallacy of the BCS..Hawaii had NO biz being on that field last night. BCS is a joke, I think we can agree on that. I don't really take the "but they were in the Sugar Bowl" argument with much force....Totally out classed / out played. Men v. boys....so...in the end, what does JJ reallly do for us Help us be more competitive with USM? We need a dude that we help us not only be more competivie, consistently competitive with USM, but also beats Mizzou / OU / Auburn every once in a while. JJ might not do that. Fran? Yes....let's REALLY upgrade this thing, not go for the sexy, short term, scrambling around option...

Baby Steps!

Postby Duke Blue Blood » Wed Jan 02, 2008 6:50 pm

Good god man! Baby Steps! We are THE worst D-1 Program in the country. If June Jones was stupid enough to take the job, we should roll out the red-carpet.

If we need someone that can beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, we better start calling Stoops and Carroll. UGA is a Top 5 team.

We have to start somewhere and that place is the bottom for us.

I wouldn't complain about either one. They both have their pros and cons, but at the end of the day, I think either of them can help our program take that next step. No sense in splitting hairs, if you ask me.

We have to walk before we can run, and the next guy needs to be able to compete with programs like USM, Tulsa, and Houston. Then, we need to set our sights on the goal of beating the occasional BCS school, and so on.

Who's to say that this coach is around long enough for us to do that? Frankly, I don't care if he is or not. I just want to look back at the end of his career at SMU, whether it be 3 years or 15 years, and be able to say that he helped the program win back respectability.

georgia is a very very very good team. they were arguably the hottest team at the end of the season. altho hawaii did look suspect at times, georgia was gonna romp whoever they played

Ok...absurd?!? UH deserved to be in that bowl. Cool..ok, I will buy that. But back to my point / concern. I thought we were going for that WOW hire / defining monent / signature hire for Orsini TO "at least better than Phil / rather bogey ever hole at Pebble Beach vs. breaking 75 at Mission Viejo C. C.. / cool sideline dresser / at least better than Phil..did I mention he was better than Phil" mentality. Sort of feel like we are settling...but, that is our "m o "...long live Ken Fleming.

Hawaii was mis-matched against a very physical GA team that was determined NOT to be this year's OU - but I would have liked to have seen Hawaii against Kansas or West Virginia. Better match-ups = better games. Georgia - va Tech or OU would have been a good match-up

Agreed!
Lets win CUSA first.
That in and of itself would be a WOW.

Ya gotta walk before you run, slick... From my vantage point, I'll take back-to-back wins v. C-usa
