If you do not think people are interested in this hire, simply go to Google and type in "June Jones SMU". While it is mostly the same article, it is AMAZING how many papers have picked this up.

Not saying anything you or others don't already know --

Regardless of who we hire, some people will be happy and others will not but nobody will be able to dispute that SMU finally is stepping up to the plate.

This is my first post so here goes...June Jones to me would definitely bring a WOW factor because he brings things that have never been at SMU before. Unlike Bennett, Jones will be able to recruit from outside Texas and can bring in kids who may not fit the traditional profile of previous recruits. Sorry, but there is better talent outside of the DFW area and even Texas. Being from California, I have known many kids who go to play for schools they are almost too good for , but could be a stud in a program like SMU. It is just that SMU has never really branched out to contact kids from all across the country. There are many talent sources outside of Texas that JJ would be able to use, which is something I thought Bennett should have done since I got to SMU. We can't keep taking the leftovers from UT, OU, A&M, etc. Plus, Jones could surely bring in a few Polynesian players who are among the best athletes out there.

No there really isn't a better place to recruit than within 50 miles around Ford Stadium. If that area was a State-it would be ranked about 5th in the number of Division 1A recruits. That is no [deleted] either-true. You can get some JUCOs from around the country but SMU and every Texas team will always be composed of 80% plus Texans. Its too expensive to have a National recruiting system in Football at a school like SMU. Even UT and A&M with money machines for recruiting budgets have 85% plus Texans.

Hiring June Jones -- and I think he is going to take the job -- would be a PR surge for SMU football a WOW to reverberate through the college football world.

I must admit, this has put SMU's name out all around the country, unlike anything since the......well, you know.

I can't argue with that, but schools like UT and A&M also take the best players in the area generally, leaving us with mostly 2 star guys with a few 3 stars thrown in. We can't keep taking their leftovers. I'm not saying we have to have a roster like USC's with players from every corner of the country, but am just saying that even branching out to other southern states would be beneficial.

We also compete with Nebraska, OU, Missouri, Ok St., Florida, Florida State, Kansas, Colorado, Baylor, and TCU who all recruit heavily out of Texas. I have been trying to make the same point for a long time, and PB did a terrible job of branching out. Even Cavan and Rossley (who I thought also had this problem) at least had a decent number of California leftovers. However, winning and making a bowl game is the best way to solve the recruiting problem.
